With Snead’s Ferry a part of the North Carolina barrier islands, anglers can catch a variety of fish here, including snapper and grouper. If you're new to fishing or don't have a boat of your own yet, there are plenty of charters available. You can also head a few miles south in to Topsail Island, dotted with waterfront eateries, boutique shopping and plenty of activities for the kids.

Revisit History from the Top Snead’s Ferry Beach Hotels

A must see for history buffs, cross the Snead’s Ferry bridge into nearby Camp Lejeune. During World War II, more than 300,000 Marines moved through Camp Lejeune, including those who went to fight in Guadalcanal, Okinawa and Iwo Jima. It's also the site of the first Marine Corps Women's Reserve training center—which trained around 2,000 women to work in administrative jobs at Camp Pendleton and Camp Lejeune during World War II—and one of seven sites where the Navy's Hospital Corpsman School trained its corpsmen. Today, it's now home to more than 40,000 military personnel and their families. In 1984, however, Camp Lejeune became notorious for something other than its military history: its drinking water was found to be contaminated by industrial solvents and other chemicals released on the base.

With Snead Ferry’s close proximity to the Atlantic, it’s no surprise you can find some of the freshest Carolina catch here. From shrimp to a variety of fish, treat your tastebuds to an array of seafood fare at a variety of waterfront dining spots close to the best Snead’s Ferry beach hotels. You can also head down to the Surf City Pier in Topsail Island, which has a full bait and tackle shop onsite.

Every year, Snead’s Ferry pays homage to its local crustaceans with the annual Shrimp Festival. Attracting thousands of spectators, the festival is a family-friendly event that includes food, games, and activities and a parade with fireworks at night.

There’s plenty of nearby island communities to visit while in Snead’s Ferry. One of the most popular is Topsail Island. The largest barrier island off the coast of North Carolina, it’s a popular tourist destination with several attractions including hiking trails, wildlife refuges as well as several golf courses.

Known for having unspoiled beaches, unique shops and restaurants, fishing, turtle nesting grounds and World War II history, the beaches on Topsail are pristine and beautiful; you'll want to pack your flip flops so you can walk barefoot in the sand or relax on one of the many beach chairs on site. There are also several options for snorkeling here as well as kiteboarding lessons if you're interested in learning. Discover all this and more when you book a room at Snead’s Ferry beach hotels.
