My 9 Things: What I packed to make a pop-up hotel room feel like home

How do you create the perfect stay when the location of your hotel room is the third hole on a golf course? See for yourself as Hilton destination marketing director Jennifer White shares her nine essential items for making a pop-up hotel room feel like home. | By Jennifer White | June 25, 2022

When you work in the hospitality industry, you’re used to experiencing relaxing stays at many different properties around the world — it literally comes with the job. What Jennifer White had never done, was stay in – or create -- a pop-up hotel room on a golf course, right on the third hole. Hilton’s destination marketing director brought her vast experience to create a temporary haven, Hilton on the Green, for the RBC Canadian Open in Toronto.

Jennifer told us, “This was an exciting stage on which to showcase Hilton’s innovative spirit — a chance to conceptualize and create the world’s first hotel room available right on the course of a PGA tournament. It also allowed us to provide a unique experience that brought in a taste of Hilton's 18 different brands — from DoubleTree cookies to the luxury bath amenities found in Conrad Hotels & Resorts."

Intrigued? Follow along as we learn what Jennifer packed to make a pop-up hotel room feel like home, as told to Hilton:

Luxury toiletries

It’s the little touches that really help turn a hotel room into a home — showing extra care by having luxury soaps and lotions on hand equals rest and relaxation. This is something I do when entertaining guests at my own home, and it’s always appreciated.

Snacks, snacks and more snacks

Access to nibbles is key when creating a cozy home atmosphere, and for me, nothing tastes better than a decadent chocolate chip cookie.

Cocktail kit

This mini cocktail kit is so fun! You get to enjoy a bar-quality drink in the comfort of your home (read: room) AND it makes for a great souvenir.

Plush robe

A luxurious robe is the perfect getaway accessory — this one is made from pure cotton and I love how soft and cozy it is!

Umbrella

One of the top ways to upend a perfect stay? Not having the things you need. Be prepared for rain (or extreme sun for that matter) with a lightweight umbrella.

Tablet

We all know what it’s like to just want to spend an evening curled up on the couch. Enter the tablet. Not only do you get access to all your favorite shows, but you can also stream them from anywhere — be it the bed, tub or deck!

Linens

Crisp white sheets automatically elevate a space, and the feel of these linens is a true delight. They go through a special finishing process which creates a super smooth feel and shine — trust me, these guarantee a perfect night’s sleep.

Nespresso machine

Instant coffee without the instant coffee taste means mornings are happy for everyone. My favorite way to enjoy that first cup? Outside, enjoying the sunrise.

Slippers

Fun fact: Keeping your feet warm can increase energy levels AND lead to a better night’s sleep. These cozy slippers will make you feel like you’re walking on air, while also keeping those toes at an optimal temperature.
